Checkerboard Children

I finished binding this last night! It came out pretty much how I always pictured it, although about 12 blocks smaller. That's OK. I think it looks great as a vintage baby quilt. I think it's funny that baby stuff is often all pastel when they say that babies see bold colors better. Anyways, I'm not sure if this should be hung on the wall or used around the house. I welcome your suggestions! I'm linking up to crazy mom quilts on Finish it up Fridays!

Here's the bunch of blocks I haven't shown before. You can see others here.

I've already had several people ask me how I did the border so neatly. First, I was heavy handed with the starch. Really, I made the fabric fairly stiff. It went a long way to prevent wobbly lines. Second, I used strip-piecing methods much like the Connecting Threads lesson here

The back is plain white to highlight the quilting. I've never worked with perle cotton thread before... so... I don't really like how most of the blocks look on the back, but this one came out pretty well.

  1. A perfect baby quilt - I agree that it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to make pastel baby stuff when they prefer more contrast. Love your borders. Starch is your friend!

  3. The lucky baby that gets this quilt is going to love the black-white contrast. Babies can stare at those colors forever!
